World Environment Day Celebration – Tree Plantation Drive



Dnyanprassarak Mandal’s College, Assagao, observed World Environment Day with great enthusiasm and a strong commitment to environmental conservation by organizing a tree plantation drive on the college campus. The programme was aimed at creating awareness about the importance of protecting the environment, promoting sustainable living practices, and encouraging students and staff to contribute actively towards building a greener and healthier future.
The programme was graced by Mr. Kiran Shirodkar, Chairman of the College Management, who attended the event as the Chief Guest. Prof. M. Shanthi, Officiating Principal of the college, was also present along with members of the teaching and non-teaching staff and a large number of students. The presence of the management, faculty, and students reflected the collective commitment of the institution towards environmental stewardship and sustainable development.
Addressing the gathering, the Chief Guest emphasized the urgent need to protect natural resources and highlighted the vital role that educational institutions play in fostering environmental consciousness among the younger generation. He encouraged students to become responsible citizens by adopting eco-friendly practices and contributing to the preservation of biodiversity.
As part of the plantation drive, a variety of fruit-bearing, medicinal, and shade-giving trees were planted across different locations on the campus. The initiative was undertaken with the objective of enhancing the green cover of the institution and creating a cleaner, healthier, and more sustainable environment for future generations. Students enthusiastically participated in the planting activities and pledged to nurture and protect the saplings to ensure their healthy growth.
Prof. M. Shanthi appreciated the efforts of all the participants and stressed the significance of collective action in addressing environmental challenges such as climate change, deforestation, and loss of biodiversity. She noted that every tree planted today is an investment in a greener tomorrow and a step towards achieving ecological balance.
The programme witnessed active participation from all teaching and non-teaching staff members and students, who joined hands in making the event a grand success. Their enthusiasm and dedication transformed the activity into a meaningful expression of environmental responsibility and community engagement.
