🌾 Educational Trip to ICAR–Central Coastal Agricultural Research Institute, Old Goa & Central Library, Patto–Panaji
Organized by the Department of Chemistry
đź“… Date: 10th September 2025
🎓 Participants: FYBSc Chemistry Students
👩‍🏫 Faculty In-Charge: Dr. Sinthiya Gawandi and Dr. Sudesh Morajkar
The Department of Chemistry organized an educational trip for FYBSc students on 10th September 2025 to two prominent institutions — the ICAR–Central Coastal Agricultural Research Institute (CCARI), Old Goa, and the Central Library, Patto–Panaji.
The visit aimed to provide students with interdisciplinary exposure to agricultural science, chemical analysis, and knowledge management practices.
🌱 Visit to ICAR–CCARI, Old Goa
At ICAR–CCARI, students visited the research farm and gained insights into regional crop varieties such as mangoes, turmeric, and rice, along with methods of preservation and cultivation suited for the coastal climate.
They were also introduced to the achievements of ICAR in the fields of agriculture, research innovation, and farmer welfare.
A visit to the analytical laboratory provided hands-on exposure to soil testing techniques, including routine chemical analysis and demonstrations using advanced analytical instruments.
📚 Visit to the Central Library, Patto–Panaji
Post-lunch, students proceeded to the Central Library, Patto–Panaji.
They were briefed about the membership benefits, facilities, and the library’s role in knowledge preservation. Students were also shown rare and historic documents dating back to the early 1900s, emphasizing the importance of archival maintenance and digitization.
👩‍🎓 Participation
A total of 28 students actively participated in the trip, gaining valuable multidisciplinary learning experiences that connected chemistry with agriculture, environmental science, and knowledge systems.
The students were accompanied by Dr. Sinthiya Gawandi and Dr. Sudesh Morajkar.
✨ Conclusion
The educational trip successfully combined scientific learning and cultural exposure, enriching students’ understanding of the real-world applications of chemistry in agriculture, and the importance of research and information resources in scientific development.
