Har Ghar Tiranga 2026, Vande Mataram @150 and Partition Horrors Remembrance Day

Dnyanprassarak Mandal’s College and Research Centre, Assagao, organised a series of activities from 10th to 17th August 2026 as part of the celebrations of India’s 80th Independence Day, under the initiatives of Har Ghar Tiranga 2026, Vande Mataram @150, and Vibhajan Vibhishika Smriti Diwas (Partition Horrors Remembrance Day). The week-long observance was aimed at fostering patriotism, national unity, civic responsibility and awareness of India’s freedom struggle, while providing students with opportunities to engage with the historical, cultural and national significance of these commemorations.

The programmes were organised by various units and departments of the College, including the Ek Bharat Shrestha Bharat (EBSB) Cell, NSS Unit, NCC, Department of History and Library & Information Centre, with participation and support from students, faculty and staff.

Major Activities Conducted

1. Har Ghar Tiranga Campaign an drelated Activities
The NSS Unit actively participated in the Har Ghar Tiranga 2026 campaign by encouraging students and volunteers to display the National Flag at their homes and on the college campus and to spread awareness about the significance of the Tricolour. Activities such as “Selfie with Tiranga” were also undertaken to encourage students and members of the college community to express their patriotic spirit and participate in the national campaign. The NSS report records the participation and support of more than 200 NSS volunteers and 125 staff members in the celebrations.

2. Tiranga Rally
NSS volunteers and NCC cadets of the College participated in Tiranga Rally activities as part of the Har Ghar Tiranga celebrations. The NCC cadets participated in the Tiranga Rally organised by the Directorate of Sports and Youth Affairs, Panaji, Goa, on 11th August 2026. The participation provided students with an opportunity to express national pride and reinforce the messages of patriotism, unity and responsible citizenship. The NSS Unit also participated enthusiastically in the Tiranga Rally.

3. Campus Cleaning Drive
As part of the Independence Day observances, the NSS Unit conducted a Campus Cleaning Drive, with volunteers and staff participating in cleaning and maintaining the college campus. The activity linked the spirit of national celebration with the values of cleanliness, civic responsibility, teamwork and social responsibility.

4. Essay Writing Competition
The Library and Information Centre organised an inter-class Essay Writing Competition on 13th August 2026 on themes including “The Unsung Heroes of India’s Independence,” “The Role of Youth in Nation Building,” “Civic Responsibility of Youths” and “My Mission for India.” The competition was conducted in collaboration with the Directorate of Arts and Culture, Government of Goa, and witnessed participation from 10 students from different streams. The competition provided students with an opportunity to reflect on India’s freedom struggle, the role of youth and their responsibilities as citizens.

5. Quiz Competition on the Freedom Struggle
The Department of History organised an inter-disciplinary Quiz Competition on “The Freedom Struggle” on 12th August 2026. A total of 50 students, forming 25 teams, participated from the Arts, Science and Commerce streams. The quiz enabled students to engage with the personalities, events, movements and developments associated with India’s struggle for independence and generated considerable enthusiasm among the participants.

6. Exhibition on “Significance of Vande Mataram @ 150”
The Department of History, in collaboration with the Department of Archives, Government of Goa, organised an exhibition on the “Significance of Vande Mataram @ 150.” The exhibition highlighted the historical background of Vande Mataram, its association with India’s national movement, and the evolution of the Tiranga through different stages of the freedom struggle. The exhibition was visited by 118 students and 16 teachers, with students from different streams engaging with the historical and visual material displayed.

7. Vibhajan Vibhishika Smriti Diwas – Partition Horrors Remembrance Programme
The Department of History, in collaboration with the Students Council of the College, organised a solemn programme to mark Vibhajan Vibhishika Smriti Diwas (Partition of India Remembrance Day). The programme included an exhibition of photographs on “The Horrors of Partition,” a special talk delivered by Ms. Archana Pednekar, Assistant Professor of History, and screening of documentaries on “Partition Legacy.” The programme was attended by 144 students along with faculty members and provided an opportunity to remember the experiences and suffering associated with the Partition of India.

8. Best Attire (Freedom Fighters) Competition
The Ek Bharat Shrestha Bharat (EBSB) Cell organised an inter-class Best Attire (Freedom Fighters) Competition on 14th August 2026 at the R. T. P. Auditorium. Students portrayed different freedom fighters through costumes, dialogues and presentations, with emphasis on authenticity and relevance. Nine students participated in the competition, which encouraged students to learn about and appreciate the contributions and sacrifices of India’s freedom fighters.

9. Street Play on Har Ghar Tiranga and Partition Horrors Remembrance Day
The EBSB Cell also organised a Street Play on 15th August 2026, immediately after the flag hoisting ceremony in front of the College Main Building. Based on the theme “Har Ghar Tiranga 2026 and Partition Horrors Remembrance Day,” the performance highlighted the significance of the National Flag, patriotism, national unity and communal harmony, while drawing attention to the sacrifices and suffering associated with the Partition of India. The street play served as an engaging medium for creating awareness and conveying the importance of peace, harmony and national integration.

Conclusion

The week-long celebrations brought together a diverse range of academic, cultural, creative, awareness-oriented and community-oriented activities, enabling students to connect with the history and ideals associated with India’s independence. Through exhibitions, competitions, rallies, performances, cleanliness activities and other initiatives, the College provided a meaningful platform for students to reflect upon the sacrifices of the freedom struggle, understand the historical significance of Partition, appreciate the evolution and symbolism of the National Flag and Vande Mataram, and reaffirm the values of patriotism, national unity, civic responsibility and communal harmony.

The enthusiastic participation of students, NSS volunteers, NCC cadets, faculty members and staff contributed significantly to the success of the celebrations and made the observance of Har Ghar Tiranga 2026, Vande Mataram @150 and Partition Horrors Remembrance Day a meaningful and participatory institutional initiative.
