NSS

National Service Scheme(NSS)

The National Service Scheme, popularly known as NSS, was launched in 1969. NSS is a voluntary association of young people in higher educational institutions which works for a campus-community linkage. It aims to involve them in rural development programmes and participation in the socio-economic life of the community. It provides immense scope for the students to interact with community and thus seeks to initiate them into social and community service.

NSS Motto: Not Me but You

NSS Unit of DM’s College

N.S.S unit had been in this college since inception of college. Around 20,000 NSS Volunteers were engaged to fulfill various objectives of NSS. At present there are 640 committed member volunteers. The NSS unit of our college seeks to uphold both our Vision statement “Education for social transformation and nation building” and the NSS motto “Not me but You” through its activities. The unit aims to inculcate social welfare in students, and to provide service to society without bias. It thus attempts to develop in them qualities like leadership, discipline, social service, social harmony, national pride and civic responsibility.

It conducts programmes on days of national significance like Independence Day, Republic Day and Liberation day, as well as marking days of importance such as NSS Day, World AIDS Day, World Environmental Day etc. Health and social awareness programmes, blood donation camp, Anti plastic drive, Malaria awareness drive, Anti- tobacco awareness, etc. are just some of the activities conducted in this college under the auspices of the NSS.

NSS yearly conducts a special camp for 7 days. The special camp provides the volunteers a opportunity to do constructive work like cleaning the surroundings as well as creation of awareness on social evils like drugs, smoking, etc among the villagers.
