The Department of Chemistry, Dnyanprassarak Mandal’s College and Research Centre, Assagao-Goa, was started in 1996. Besides offering B.Sc. (Chemistry) degree under Choice based credit system, ours is the first and only college in Goa to start M.Sc. (Pharmaceutical Chemistry) in the year 2009. We also offer M.Sc. (Organic Chemistry) since 2017. The Research Centre (Chemistry) was started in the year 2013-14 and ours is the first college in Goa to offer Ph.D. in Chemistry. We have achieved the distinction of securing three gold medals in M.Sc. Chemistry at M.Sc. Chemistry University examinations. At present there are 15 faculty and five guest faculty members and the total strength of undergraduate students is 180, post-graduate students is 150 and currently there are two students pursuing Ph.D. at the research centre (Chemistry).For the last 20 years, the faculty members are actively involved in research activities of diverse and advanced fields of chemistry such as synthetic organic chemistry, heterocyclic chemistry, green chemistry, advanced nanomaterials, organometallic catalysis, medicinal chemistry and drug discovery and pharmaceutical analysis. This has resulted in large number of publications (40) in impact factor journals like Organometallics, Bioorganic and Medicinal Chemistry Letters, Synthetic Communications, Journal of Superconductivity and Novel Magnetism etc. We have well equipped laboratory with sophisticated instruments. Our department is the only department in Goa which is DST-Fist sponsored department. The faculty members have been engaged in major and minor sponsored projects by UGC, DST-Goa etc. the best practices of the department has been promotion of green chemistry and health awareness. The department has MOU with BSRC-KLE College of Pharmacy-Belgavi, Neshaju Envirotech Private Limited- Bengluru and CSIR-National Institute of Oceanography- Goa.

The highlight of the department includes excellent academic and placement record, motivating research culture, and encouraging industry-academia relations.
