Faculty Induction Program & Staff Orientation held at DM’s College and Research Centre

The Internal Quality and Assurance cell (IQAC) of DM’s College and Research Centre organised the faculty Induction programme FIP for all the new teaching staff of the college on Wednesday, 20th October, 2021. It was a 4-hour session conducted for the purpose of welcoming the newly recruited teaching staff, acquainting them with the procedures followed at the college, making them aware of the history of the institution and how to be an effective teacher.

The session was hosted by Dr M. Shanthi, HOD of the Department of English and the member of the IQAC of the college. She introduced the three resource persons Dr Rajesh Pednekar, HOD, Department of Chemistry and convenor of Research Development and Innovation Cell, Mr Shripad Merchant, Assistant Professor, Department of Law and the coordinator of the IQAC and Dr D.B. Arolkar, Principal of the College.

Dr Rajesh Pednekar gave a detailed history of the institution right from its inception to the present day. He highlighted the different courses that the college offers including an MSc in Environment Studies, a unique course that the college has just started. He spoke about the development of the college in terms of infrastructure and ran through a long list of academic achievements. Mr Shripad Merchant spoke about the responsibilities of a teacher and how to achieve the best outcomes in the classroom and out.

Dr Arolkar commenced his address with an inspirational quote by Dr A.P.J. Abdul Kalam, “Teachers are the backbone of any country- a pillar upon which all aspirations of the country are built to become realities.” Keeping in line with the spirit of the quote, Dr Arolkar gave the new teachers advice on how to be the best teacher. Drawing from 40 years of service in the academic field, his speech was filled with anecdotes and experiences that influenced him in his career. He encouraged the new staff to participate in academic as well as extracurricular activities and learn the art of time management. He stressed on prioritising fitness and staying healthy in order to achieve greatness.

The session received a lot of positive feedback from the participants. Ms. Kimberley Afonso, Dr. Purushottam Verlekar and Ms. Jonita Lobo appreciated the efforts that went into preparing them for the academic year.  Participants were awarded with the participation certificates. Ms Rashmi Redkar, Vice Principal concluded the session by thanking the resource persons. Dr. M. Shanthi, coordinator of the FIP compered the programme.
